Boston

Judge: Mr Robert Geary

Firstly I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to award Challenge Certificates in GSP's for the first time and there hospitality on the day. I came with an open mind and would like to make these overall observations of the breed, as judged today. I found movement to be a concern as a Gundog should have drive and reach and was concerned at the number that didn't have this. Two other concerns for me were size and condition, quite a few had soft muscle tone and there were also several who could easily lose a few pounds too which resulted in lower placings.

MPD(5, 1) 1 Mann's Valger Quorum. 2 Smillie's Valger Quazar At Oakberrow. Litter brothers with lots to like about both, lovely heads good necks onto good shoulders, good bone, both in good condition. I preferred my winners profile movement but am sure with age these two will change places several times. 3 Pitman's Pitwit Noble Opal.

PD(5) 1 Hamlin's Know No Bounds At Nuash. Flashy liver and white dog, good head, neck and shoulders, straight front, well bent stifles and nice feet, if any criticism, he was longer cast than I would have preferred. In good hard condition which he put to good use moving round the ring with reach and drive. BP. 2 Cooke &Hammond's Seasham Super Trouper. For me a classic head which I loved. Didn't help his handler as he had a tendency to lean back. Good neck onto good shoulders, straight front, good ribs and short loin, moved well in profile. 3 Trow &Jowsey's Winterwell Mr Hobbs.

JD(4) 1 Cooke &Hammond's Seasham Super Trouper. Repeat of puppy second. 2 Stammer's Barleyarch Billbug At Lochpointer. Liver/white, nicely balanced boy in profile. Nice head shape in outline, muscular neck, good shoulders, straight front, didn't settle as well as first on the move. 3 Hawksby's Benboee Beguiling At Delahawk.

GD(4, 1) 1 Stammer's Barleyarch Billbug At Lochpointer. Repeat of junior second.
2 Warrington & Schooling's Stairfoot Serpentine At Zakova. Liver/white, correct head, good neck onto good shoulders, straight front, good bone, held topline well, good stifle, moved ok. 3 Mould & Bird's Koolwater Cream Cracker.

PGD(4, 1) 1 Hamlin's The Bisto Kid At Nuash. Solid liver, lovely head, neck and shoulders. Straight front, good feet, short coupled, good stifle, nicely balanced and moved well. 2 John's Keigame Jigsaw. Liver/white, nice head, neck, good shoulders, good length, moved ok. 3 Whiting's Ranger Two Rodale JW.

LD(10, 2) 1 Lisles' Barleyarch Rolex JW. Top of the standard male with a masculine clean cut head, broad ears set high, slightly arched neck onto well laid shoulders, tight elbows, straight front, well sprung ribs, covering plenty ground, effortless movement but erratic at times. RCC. 2 Burke's Koolwater Storm Warning For Alcazar. Similar comments to first, however, had a tendency to be overstretched and would have preferred a more controlled movement. 3 Malin's Heathermark Irish At Benrae ShCM.

OD(8, 2) 1 Harriss' Am Grand Ch VJK-Myst Goes Like The Wind Of Barleyarch (Imp USA). The standard calls for a noble, steady dog showing power, endurance and speed giving the immediate impression of an alert and energetic dog whose movements are well co-ordinated. Of medium size short back covering plenty of ground, etc. Up to now he fitted the bill for me, he also had a clean cut head, good angles fore and aft and was a powerhouse moving round the ring. Entered the ring with a look at me attitude and it never left him. Very happy to award this boy the CC and BOB. 2 Graham's Sh Ch Winterwell Jelly Belly With Nyliram. Another flashy liver/white, lovely clean cut head, balanced with good angles fore and aft, arched neck onto well laid shoulders, good bone, straight front, well bent stifle, good reach but lacked effort behind on the move. 3 Rose & Gaffneys' Sh Ch/Ned Ch Kavacanne Toff At The Top JW ShCM.

VD(2) 1 Stainsby-Soanes' Kazanpaul Sticky Toffee Pud Of Whistlecraft ShCM. Liver/white, good head, arched neck onto good shoulders, straight front, good ribs, short loin, well bent stifles giving a balanced picture, won this class on better reach and drive.
2 Stedman's Indijazz Grand Designer ShCM. Solid black, another nice boy who presented a balanced picture, very close on looks but first had better drive.

GCD/B(3) 1 Coe & Pitman's Int/Lux/Ned Ch Pitwit Leeona. Liver/white bitch, nice size, good head onto arched neck, well laid shoulders, lovely angles fore and aft, good ribs, well bent stifles, moved with reach and drive. 2 Schoneville's Balvenie Bella. Liver/white puppy on the small side, feminine head, good neck and shoulders, straight front, nice bone, well bent stifles, took a while to settle but moved out well when she had. 3 Prior's Booton Imperial.

MPB(7) 1 Hayes' Valger Quartz In Elfrindew. Liver/white. Balanced good head, neck and shoulders, nice tight feet, straight front, good ribs short loin, well bent stifles, harsh coat and moved out well. BPB. 2 Smith's Indijazz Young Love At Abbeyaire. Liver/white, longer cast than first, good head, onto arched neck and well laid shoulders. Straight front with good feet, adequate bend of stifle. Moved well. 3 Warrington's Zakova  Aszera.

PB(9, 1) 1 Chandler's Koolwater Ritz. Liver/white, lovely head and eye with broad, high set ears. arched neck onto well laid shoulders, straight front, neat feet, well bent stifle, moved ok, pity she was carrying too much weight. 2 Smith's Indijazz Young Love At Abbeyaire. 3 Prior's Jolicoem Jevington Of Whinchat.

JB(10) 1 Drew's Cushatlaw Illustrious JW. Liver/white. 2 Gain &Dixon's Kavacanne A Vimto For Molkara JW. Liver/white. 3 Cox's Cushatlaw Irresistable. Really splitting hairs in this class, lots to like about all my placed bitches and decisions will alter on the day. First, second and third had lovely clean cut heads onto slightly arched necks, well laid shoulders, tight elbows, straight fronts with tight feet. Good ribs, short loin well bent stifles. Movement was the deciding factor and today I was impressed with my winners reach and drive. First RCC.

GB(5) 1 Cox's Cushatlaw Irresistable. Repeat. 2 Elliott's Gamebourne Enchanted With Ankerwycke. Solid liver with clean head, arched neck onto well laid shoulders, straight front, good bone and ribs, well bent stifles, moved well. 3 Elrington's Barleyarch Beetle At Tequesta.

PGB(3) 1 Stainsby-Soanes' Kavacanne Sirius Toint Of Whistlecraft. Liver/white, good head onto arched neck with well laid shoulders, straight front, good tight feet, well bent stiflem moved well. 2 Hinchcliff's Goosepoint Eiderdown. Liver/white bitchm broader in skull with arched neck onto good shouldersm good bone, straight front, adequate stifle. 3 Peebles' Keigame Hopscotch.

LB(7) 1 Rose's Kavacanne Blowin A Gale JW. Liver/white, lovely honest type, excellent balance, lovely head although would prefer a touch more in muzzle, strong arched neck onto well laid back shoulders straight front, good bone, good ribs, short loin, well bent stifle, harsh coat, moved well close up to main winners. 2 Hughes' Sonnenburg Seaholly. Flashy liver/white, well up to size, lovely head strong neck onto good shoulders, straight front, good bone, well bent stifle, lost out on movement as not the drive of first. 3 Mann's Valger Phoebe JW.
